Cherry Picker.

Another Saturday project…

Where we live there is a nearby park with fruit trees. Cherries, plums, apples… The problem is that by the time we get up there all of the fruit that is reachable has been picked. We needed a way to grab our share.

In the local GoodWill (we find lots of project ideas there), we found what I later learned was a lightbulb changing pole. It is a lightweight plastic pole that extends to more than 10' and has a threaded end.

We whipped out our 3D printer and after a couple of iterations came up with this: the CherryPicker 1000! You basically hook the fruit in the teeth and pull. The fruit then falls and gets caught in the basket.

Ok, it’s not pretty and could use more iteration (and smaller screws!), but the cherries are just as tasty!
